GASTROSCOPY INSTRUCTIONS:

 

GASTROSCOPY IS DONE IN SURGICAL AMBULATORY DAY CARE AT THE LANGLEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. 

 

You must have nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before your examination. 

 

YOU MUST HAVE A RIDE HOME as you are given sedation for the procedure and must not drive for 24 hours after the procedure. Read more about conscious sedation here.

 

You may be asked to discontinue all ‘STOMACH MEDICATIONS’ e.g. Losec, Pariet, Nexium, Pantoprazole, Ranitidine and blood thinner such as warfarin, Xarelto, Pradaxa, Apixaban, Plavix, Ticagrelor or high-dose ASA prior to your procedure.  Contact your surgeon's office at least 10 days prior to the procedure if you are on any of these medications and have not received any instruction.  

 

You will be at the hospital for about two hours total. (You are there one hour prior to your procedure, your procedure time and recovery time.)
